Seasonal Tournaments

Tournament Details:

Any player (even those not participating in Sky Team Tennis city or county classes) may register. Players are entered into a singles bracket. Players are expected to know how to serve and keep score prior to registration. Please carefully read through the details below.

1. Pick up tournament balls/scorekeeper

   Players will pick up a can of tournament balls from the coordinator at the designated pick-up time (sent via email). Players will use these balls throughout the tournament and will get to keep them. Scorekeepers will also be provided, but must be returned.

2. Reach out to your opponent

   Players reach out to their opponent to complete their match at an agreed upon time and location. Matches are to be played in Santa Clarita, CA or El Cariso Community Regional Park in Sylmar, CA. For each round, players get one week to complete their match and report the score.

3. Tennis scoring and details

   Players playan 8 game pro set (first to 8 games wins), regular tennis scoring (with ads). Players must win by a margin of 2 games (e.g. 8–6, 9–7). If games are tied 8–8, a 7 point tiebreaker will be played to decide the match. Players may take a 5–10 minute warm-up before the match begins.

   • Regular tennis scoring (with ads):

     • Game points: 0 (love), 15, 30, 40, game.

     • Deuce/Advantage: At 40–40 (deuce), a player must win 2 points in a row to win the game.

       • If the server wins the first point: “Ad-in.”

       • If the receiver wins the first point: “Ad-out.”

       • If the player fails to win the second point, score returns to deuce.

     • Serving: Players get 2 serves per point and alternate serving each game. Missing both serves gives a point to the opponent.

     • Changing sides: Players switch ends after the first game, then every 2 games (e.g., 1–0, 2–1, 4–1…).

   • Standard Tiebreaker: Players must win the tiebreaker by a 2-point margin (e.g. 7–5, 8–6, etc.). The player whose turn it is serves the 1st point, then players alternate with the opponent serving 2 points each. Players switch sides every 6 points (e.g. 3–3).

4. Winner reports score

   Winner reports score by date shown on the bracket to the coordinator (via email) and prepares for the next match the following week.

5. Consolation Matches

   For brackets with 8 players or fewer, there will be consolation matches played for 3rd place.
